“May the Lord bless you and keep you — and may His presence guide you this week.”

SPEAKER_01 0:32

Father, walk with us as we seal these songs of ascent in our hearts. Walk with us as you walked with Israel out of Egypt. May these words be a guiding light through the dark times and a pillar of hope when we arrive in the wilderness. We love you and we praise you. Bless you, Father. Today I'm reading Psalm one twenty two. I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord. And now here we are, standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a well built city, its seamless walls cannot be breached. All the tribes of Israel, the Lord's people, make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the Lord, as the law requires of Israel. Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David. Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper. O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces. For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, May you have peace. For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem.

Take a moment for the words of Psalm one hundred twenty two to rest in your heart. The law required Israel to go to Jerusalem, and yet the opening line is one of ecstatic joy.

Certainly there are times when we don't feel this joy on a Sunday morning. The right mixture of a poor week, bad sleep, and tension in the home can make that feel like a burden. May Psalm 122 remind us that despite the waters raging around us, we can rejoice in the house of the Lord. That there's a place where we can make peace for the sake of those we love, and that on any given Sunday, we can be the living example of Psalm 122, choosing to rejoice in the house of the Lord, despite the path that brought us there.
