This reflection shows that love reaches its fullest expression when it moves beyond words and becomes visible through action. It invites us to consider where good intentions can become practical expressions of care as Christ’s love increasingly shapes the way we live.

“May the Lord bless you and keep you — and may His presence guide you this week.”
Today I'm reading first John three, verses sixteen through eighteen. We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need, but shows no compassion, how can God's love be in that person? Dear children, let's not merely say that we love each other. Let's show the truth by our actions. It's possible to care deeply about someone and still never meaningfully show it. Most people have experienced some version of that tension. Good intentions are real, but intentions alone don't meet needs, repair wounds, or sustain relationships. At some point, love becomes visible through what we choose to do. John writes with that kind of clarity. This is how we know what love is. Jesus Christ laid his life down for us. John doesn't begin with human definitions of love. He points directly to Jesus. Love is not primarily a feeling, preference, or emotional reaction. It's revealed through self-giving action. Jesus does not really talk about love or encourage love. He embodies it. Then John calls us all to the higher standard. Let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and in truth. Love becomes visible in the choices we make every day. Sometimes it looks significant and costly. Other times it appears in quieter ways that rarely receive attention. Listening carefully when someone needs to be heard, showing generosity when it would be easier to hold back, choosing forgiveness when resentment feels justified. Remaining present when walking away would require less effort. As people abide in Jesus, his love begins moving beyond belief and into practice. Fruit eventually becomes visible. Not because we're trying to prove ourselves spiritually, but because connection to Jesus gradually reshapes the way we live. Love that remains internal eventually becomes incomplete. Love that has taken root begins finding expression.
