This reflection shows that abiding begins with trusting Jesus in moments of uncertainty, rather than waiting for full clarity about what lies ahead. It invites us to find stability not in understanding, but in remaining close to Him when our hearts feel unsettled.

Today I'm reading John fourteen, verses one through seven. Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's house. If this were not so, would I have told you that I'm going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am, and you know the way to where I'm going. No, we don't know, Lord, Thomas said. We have no idea where you're going, so how can we know the way? Jesus told him I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on you do know him and have seen him. Tension is what keeps us hooked in movies and TV. It keeps us coming back to see what happens next. The tension of the unknown does not feel so addicting when it leaves the screen and enters our lives. Shifting plans and unmet expectations. Things you thought were clear, suddenly feeling blurry at best. Sometimes nothing dramatic has even happened, and yet there's a quiet unrest in our peripheral vision. As we enter John 14, we see the disciples sitting in that kind of tension. They have followed Jesus, built their lives around him, and now something's changing. They don't fully understand what's coming, but they can feel it. The future no longer feels as steady as it once did. Jesus does not respond by explaining everything in detail. He speaks directly to what they're carrying. Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. He redirects them towards trust. Not because their questions are unimportant, but because trust is what will hold them when clarity is incomplete. Instead of outlining the path ahead, he draws their attention to who he is. I am the way, the truth, and the life. The way forward is not something they must figure out from a distance. It's something they walk in with him. Truth is not reduced to information, and life is not something to secure on their own. All of it is found in relationship with Jesus. We often look for understanding so that we can feel settled. Jesus invites us to remain with him so that we can be steady even when understanding is still forming. Our journey to John 15 and Abide start here, not in having everything resolved, but in trusting the one who is present, even when the path ahead is not. Before I close in prayer, here's a question to wrestle with. Teach me to remain with you and find stability in who you are.
