This reflection reveals that peace is not only formed within us but expressed through how we live, as truth takes shape through action. It invites us to move beyond understanding into obedience, allowing peace to be reflected in the way we serve and relate to others.

“May the Lord bless you and keep you — and may His presence guide you this week.”
Today I'm reading John thirteen, verses twelve through seventeen. After washing their feet he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, Do you understand what I was doing? You call me teacher and lord, and you are right because that's what I am. And since I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. I have given you an example to follow, do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master, nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them. Taking thoughts captive and shifting focus is only part of the story. It is possible to think rightly and still live unchanged. Attention can be focused, thoughts can be aligned, and yet, if nothing moves outward, formation remains incomplete. In John thirteen, Jesus gives a picture of what peace looks like when it shows up in action. After washing his disciples' feet, he asks a simple question. Do you understand what I've done for you? The one with authority took the position of a servant. He does not simply teach humility, he embodies it and he explains, I have set an example that you should do as I have done for you. What we receive from Jesus is meant to be lived out. Peace is not only something internal, it begins to show up in how we relate to others, how we serve, how we carry ourselves in ordinary moments. Jesus does not separate understanding from action. Now that you know these things you will be blessed if you do them. There's a difference between knowing and practicing. Peace deepens as what we believe becomes what we live. This kind of life is often quiet. It doesn't draw attention to itself. It's shaped by humility rather than recognition, but it is steady. And over time it reflects something deeper than effort. It reflects alignment. The same peace that forms in the mind and heart begins to take its true shape through obedience. Before I close in prayer, here's a question to wrestle with.
