The Peace We Need - 2 | Matthew 11: 27-30
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
This reflection reveals that peace is not found in managing our burdens but in bringing them to Jesus and learning to walk in step with Him. It invites us to stop carrying life on our own and trust that His way leads to true rest.

“May the Lord bless you and keep you — and may His presence guide you this week.”
Today I'm reading Matthew eleven, verses twenty seven through thirty. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. I have recently started adopting the terminology of God sized and human sized for sorting through the burdens of heart and mind. We have a tendency to try and carry it all ourselves, though, despite the size. Whether it's something as simple as a daily responsibility, or as abstract as the quiet expectation that we have to keep everything together. Over time, what once felt manageable begins to weigh more than we expected. Jesus speaks directly into that kind of weariness. Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. The invitation is simple. Come. Not fix, not figure it out, not carry it just a little longer. Come. That alone begins to shift how we think about peace. It's not something we arrive at by solving every problem, it begins by bringing ourselves honestly to Jesus. He continues, take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart. A yoke was a tool used to guide and direct. Jesus is not offering the removal of all responsibility, he's offering a different way of carrying it. To take his yoke is to walk in step with him, to learn his pace, to be shaped by his way of living. Which all comes with a promise, you will find rest for your souls. Not just physical rest, not a temporary pause, something deeper, a kind of rest that reaches into the places where exhaustion builds up over time. Jesus describes his way as easy and his burden as light. Not because life becomes simple, but because we're no longer carrying it alone or on our own strength. Peace forms in this place, not when everything is resolved, but when we stop trying to carry everything ourselves and begin to walk with him instead. Before I close in prayer, here's a question to wrestle with What burden am I still trying to carry on my own instead of bringing it to Jesus? Jesus, I bring you the things that feel heavy and unresolved. Teach me to walk with you instead of carrying everything alone. Help me to learn your way and to find rest in you.
